
FUNERARY ARCHAEOLOGY COURSE. FIELD ANTHROPOLOGY
The course is only available by viewing videos of previously recorded classes.
Students will have ONE MONTH to visualize the course and consult all kinds of questions and doubts to the teacher in charge.

SUBJECT OF THE COURSE.
1.- ETHICAL AND LEGAL FRAMEWORK.
Difference between Physical and Forensic Anthropology.
Interaction with the site and the population. Prohibited and permitted things in the treatment of human bones.
Different scenarios, different legislation, different responses. Examples of real cases.
2.- ANIMAL OR HUMAN?
Differentiation between animal and human skeletal remains. The avoidable error.
Introduction to the essential equipment for an anthropologist in the field.
3.- FUNERARY PRACTICES AND TYPES OF BURIALS.
Definition of Funerary practice. Types of funerary practices.
Types of burial.
4.- MINIMUM NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS.
Different techniques to determine the minimum number of occupants of a grave. Approach to the study of a collective burial.
Calculation of the Preservation Index. Preservation Index.
5.- EXCAVATION PROCESSES OF HUMAN REMAINS.
Location of necropolis and limitation of the excavation area.
Contexts in which human skeletal remains can be found.
Excavation of a complete skeleton. Technique for collecting biological samples.
Techniques for the collection of non-bony biological findings (cysts, calculi, etc.).
Personal belongings and/or trousseau.
